Description
A classic patty melt features a juicy beef patty, melted cheese, and caramelized onions, all grilled between two slices of bread.

- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 4 slices rye bread
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
- Add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
- Form the ground beef into two patties and season with salt and pepper.
- In the same skillet, cook the patties to your desired doneness.
- Place cheese on patties during the last minute of cooking to melt.
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Assemble the sandwich with a patty, caramelized onions, and another slice of cheese between two slices of bread, buttered side out.
- Grill the sandwich on medium heat until golden brown on both sides.
